Specify an ePTFE acoustic membrane for your sound opening
An acoustic vent must be evaluated as part of the microphone or speaker assembly. The housing opening, available membrane area and component spacing affect the result.
Define the acoustic and protection targets
- Microphone or speaker application and intended frequency range.
- Acceptable insertion loss or attenuation, with the measurement method.
- Water and particle exposure, plus the intended protection test.
- Port dimensions, membrane-to-component spacing and adhesive footprint.
Compare samples in the intended housing. Protection requirements and sound performance should be assessed together before choosing the assembly.

Acoustic vent membrane questions
Is a pressure equalization membrane interchangeable with an acoustic vent?
Do not assume interchangeability. A sound opening needs acoustic evaluation as well as protection testing. Review pressure equalization vents when enclosure breathing is the primary requirement.
